English as a Second Language (ESL)

No post to display.

ESL at Bear Creek K-8

ELD (English Language Development) is an overarching view of language that supports the idea that learning new ideas also means learning language. Our goal is our students are simultaneously learning through language, learning about language, and learning new language.

ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers partner with classroom teachers and staff to ensure students with various language backgrounds are learning how to access all the linguistic resources available to them in order to achieve personal and academic goals.

What might ELD look like for my child?

  • Co-teaching with the classroom teacher in the classroom
  • Co-planning with the classroom teacher for instruction
  • Ensuring visual supports in the classroom (anchor charts, vocabulary word walls, picture cues)
  • Providing content resources (books, materials, realia, videos) for classroom use
  • Small group instruction for specialized English Language needs

English as a Second Language in Jeffco

Welcome multilingual learners and families!

Multilingual learners contribute to a strong academic environment, creating schools where diverse communities thrive.

Jeffco's English as a Second Language (ESL) program supports multilingual learners academically and linguistically. Teachers and tutors from the Department of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) use a range of strategies to help students who are learning English access rigorous, grade-level content while developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English.
